Groningen, the Netherlands – March 25, 2014.
Together with the recently published clinical paper by de Vos et al. (2014) an editorial paper from Ann Marie Schmidt has been published. In this editorial it is concluded that the paper by de Vos et al. (2014) provides a formidable window into the association between the AGE Reader measurement, AGEs and mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events in peripheral artery disease. In addition the author of the editorial gives an excellent overview of the previous studies with the AGE Reader and illustrates the pathogenic importance of the AGE Reader measurement.
De Vos et al. (2014)
This publication demonstrates that the AGE Reader measurement is a strong predictor of mortality and coronary events in patients with peripheral artery disease. The added value of the AGE Reader in predicting the cardiovascular risk of diabetes and renal failure was already well known. The present publication extends its (independent and additive) predictive power to the much wider group of persons with atherosclerosis.
