He was trained in internal medicine and is associate professor in hypertension and atherosclerosis. |

He works within the Division for Artificial Organs in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Groningen He was educated in applied physics and is specialized in biomedical optics. He wrote a thesis on tissue optics applied to reflectance pulse oximetry. |
